We Did Have Christmas Here, Too

We had a good Christmas this year. Wait. Let me rephrase that.

 Christmas this year sucked!

We woke up early to get the stockings ready. Then, the kids got up, but had to wait for Nana and Pawpaw to get here before they could open their gifts. Pure torture! For the kids.

We had breakfast and waited. Nana and Pawpaw finally got here and the kids opened their gifts. They all got personal dvd players, headphones, cases and a movie, plus pajamas and a couple other things. It was a good haul for them. Mr Farmer had the camera and hasn't quite figured out how to take a photo that isn't blurry, yet. I found only a couple.

This next photo was taken by Baby. I don't think she has a future in photography. Like her dad.

The entire time we had to keep pausing to wait while Mr Farmer answered his phone when his mother called. Repeatedly. Over and over again. The whining!  And not from the kids patiently waiting for their long-awaited Christmas presents.

Mr Farmer's dad later ended up in the ICU and we had to leave the kids and run up to the hospital 4 hours away. Before we even left the house, he was doing better, but we had everything packed, so we went. We went somewhere we swore we'd never go again, on a day we did not want to leave, to see people we didn't want to see. Merry Christmas to us! We really missed seeing the kids enjoy their gifts! Not to mention missing the 2 days of vacation that were wasted. Is the bitterness and irritation I feel coming through in my words?

Anyway, we got home and enjoyed the rest of the year together. Mr Farmer always has the week from Christmas Eve until Jan 2 off of work.

  1. I can relate to your bitterness and irritation. But this way Mr. Farmer has nothing to regret and you have supported Mr. Farmer too. I know it isn't the same as being with your kids enjoying their presents and that just plain stinks. I hope that the new year brings much happiness for your family.

    1. I agree. And now it can't be held over our heads by his parents, either.

  2. It seems like several bloggers had a bad end to 2013. Our son, John, nearly died from carbon monoxide poisoning two days before Christmas because someone was careless where he works. He is still having problems, so not out of the woods yet. We had a $180 vet bill for our Annie on Monday. she seemed fine for the next two days, now she's showing signs of being sick again. I haven't been warm since the temp dropped below 70F. Bah. Humbug.

    1. I'm so sorry to hear about John! I hope he comes out of it ok. Tell him he has to get better because gardening season is just around the corner and you can't do it without him. Poor Annie! Did they find something wrong with her or just charge you and say they couldn't find anything? As for temps, Monday our high will be 5 below zero!

    2. The vet can't find anything wrong, by exam and blood tests, other than a mild liver irritation. She's on some antibiotics for that, but he also gave her an injection of an anti-inflammatory. It was about an hour after the injection that she was acting normal again. He gave me a few Rimadyl tabs, so I gave her one last night and will dose her again today. We'll see if that helps. I hope so, she was feeling pretty bad last night.

Brrrr. We had one night that was -15 with wind chill factor, but the lowest actual temperature was 4F. Now we are being plagued with freezing fog. We went out of town yesterday, not realizing how bad the fog was just 10 miles out of town, and I fought icy roads and poor visibility the entire trip. I'm stiff as a board today from tensing up while driving 120 miles under those conditions!

    3. Does she have arthritis? Or is she vomiting and stuff?

The freezing fog sure makes for pretty trees, though.

    4. She doesn't act like she's in pain, so I suspect arthritis. She is eating today, but walking so slowly with her head down. I fed her in bed this morning, then Mr. Granny carried her outside to go potty. If it's arthritis, the Rimadyl should work. He doesn't want her to take it every day though, only on "bad" days. We did build her a ramp so she can easily get in and out of bed, but she is very tentative about the two steps down from the house to the patio. Poor baby is only going to be six years old in 2 weeks, so her old age years don't look very promising as far as her health goes.
