Our beloved dog, a true part of our family, was hit by a car this morning and had to be put down. It's still too painful to talk much about it. He was such a special dog.
His eyes were what first drew me to him. He had a way of using those
beautiful, brown puppy dog eyes to weasel his way into your heart. He
had the softest ears, too. But his ears were sensitive and he didn't
like them messed with much.
He loved being outside. But if it was windy, he liked to come inside. And if it was cold, he liked to be inside. And if it was rainy, he liked to come inside. And if he was just feeling lonely, he wanted to be inside. He loved being with his family!
He kept the farm in order. He didn't like critters in the yard, big or small. He was a great watchdog and we felt safer with him here. He was a quiet companion when you just wanted to sit and be still. Buddy was such a joy to watch when he was just being a dog. He raced- not chased- the mailman every single day. And he always won! Buddy was spectacular to watch when he would catch a scent of an animal and race top speed after the scent. Or when he chased rabbits. He was an amazing dog!
Our special Buddy will be greatly missed.
I'm so sorry. The ache is tremendous! Keeping you guys in my thoughts. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ranni. I've cried off and on all day.
ReplyDeleteHaving lost a couple of beloved animal family members, I know it's so hard and devastating. Please know that you gave him a wonderful life that he might not have had with someone else. You were his family and I truly believe they are still with us. And I certainly hope we see them again someday.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs and warm thoughts to you and your family from us to you...
Thank you, 1st Man. He provided us with so many great memories and as the sadness lessens those are what we'll remember.
DeleteGreat to "see" you again!
Oh, I am so sad for all of you...there will be many tearful days and nights ahead. I love the pictures, especially the one of Buddy in the irises. Those are my favorites, too.
ReplyDeleteThey have a permanent indentation in the middle of them now from years of being a comfy bed. We made a grave marker last night- the first one we've ever made for a pet. Thank you, Athanasia.
DeleteSorry to hear about your loss Langela, my heart goes out to you and your family. The loss of a dog is almost like losing a child. He was a very good looking dog and could see why he was such a beloved member of your family,
ReplyDeleteThanks, Gordon. He was a good boy and I miss how very soft he was.
DeleteVery sorry for your loss. We went through the same thing a few weeks ago. My grandchildren speak of him every day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Frank. Sorry for your loss as well. We laugh a lot about his silly antics and that helps the sadness a bit.
DeleteI know people say it's too soon, but the same thing happened to my children's dog when they were all young, 5 up through 12, and we seriously ended up with 2 dogs almost in the same week from folks at church. Someone had puppies dumped in their yard that they had to find homes for and another had an older dog that needed a home immediately and it turned out to be the best thing for them. They couldn't replace their lost pet but they suddenly had these creatures that really needed someone to love them, right away, right then. That puppy is now 15 years old and lives with my oldest girl.
ReplyDeleteMy best to all of you.
We got a dog the same day Buddy died. He was so sweet. He was hit and killed a week to the day of Buddy. My two girls saw it happen. He died instantly so at least he didn't suffer, but it was heartbreaking. So, I told the kids my heart needed a break before I was ready for another one. But we've enjoyed looking for one-seeing all the adorable pictures. We've lived in this house over ten years and the only two dogs to be hit were both hit within a week of each other.
