While making cabinet handles for my kitchen, I came across and purchased many different pieces of old silverware. Each design is so pretty that I decided to show a few to you.
Some of them are actually worn away with use. It makes you realize that older generations didn't just throw away things as they began to wear or even before they began to wear. They used them and that gives us the beautifully aged pieces to look at and admire today.
I love antiques. I love to dream about the days when they were used. The excitement someone may have felt when they bought them new. The hands that used them, cleaned them. The homes they came from. It always makes me feel quiet and at peace to think of these things, almost a hazy dream.
Anyway, here we go.
I also like to see things that were once used commonly, but are no longer.
I hope you enjoyed looking at some of these with me.
Those are very pretty and ornate. I am like you Langela, I love antiques and I always think about all the people who might have owned them and all the hands that have touched them before you. They are like windows to the past and some how I feel a little connected to all who owned them before me.
ReplyDeleteIt's always interesting to find things that we can't figure out what they were ever used for. You know someone had a need and came up with a solution. There used to be so many more unique tools as so many of them were made by a specific person for a specific need. They weren't commercialized or sold, but used.
DeleteVery unique! Kind of like you! That must mean you are worth a lot..:-) You sure won't find them made like that today. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteNot everything unique is worth a lot. Some of us are just "special".☺
DeleteWow, I love these unique pieces of silverware and like you I so enjoy antiques. I love to dream about the same things you do. That's why I love Gettysburg and all the treasures that were found on the battlefield. It is just amazing. Thanks for sharing these fabulous pieces with us! You have great treasures there!
ReplyDeleteWe are studying the Civil War this year. I'd love to take the kids to Gettysburg so they could experience it a bit. But it probably won't happen. Mr Farmer and I went there many years ago, but I really had no clue what happened in the Civil War. I'm hoping my kids retain information better than I did.
