Garden Update

The gardens are coming along. I planted a celery plant last year and never had anything to harvest, so I let it go to seed. This year I have so many volunteer celery plants everywhere. I'm hoping I can harvest something this time around.

I also have many volunteer marigolds.

This year I planted a "Goliath" marigold. The flowers are HUGE! This one is literally bigger than my hand. My fingers did not come close to coming out on the other side of the flower head.

My Oxheart tomatoes are already getting lots of green tomatoes even though they started out as pretty tiny plants.

The Mr. Stripey tomatoes are bigger plants and have plenty of blooms.

There are nice cherry tomatoes growing. I can't wait!

The cucumbers are slowly growing. I love cukes!

I planted two asparagus plants this spring and they are growing nicely. They are in between the bricks.

Do You Remember This?

Do you remember this? Do you remember how pretty and organized it was?

I only remember because I just went back and reread my post here.

I didn't remember because my pantry now looks like this.

 Not too bad...

Theeerrre it is.

Did you notice how the cereal is in bags on the floor, leaving the pretty boxes on the shelf empty?

I just thought I'd share a follow-up after real life set up residence in the pantry.

A Walk Out Back

Saturday was the first perfect day of the year. The temperatures were perfect. The breeze was perfect. The sun was perfect. And it was a perfect day for a walk. We worked hard all day doing landscaping and I was dead tired. My feet hurt. My back hurt. But Mr Farmer thought we needed to walk out back. I wasn't sure I could make the mile round trip, but agreed to try.

Buddy went with us. See the trees way out there? That's our goal.

This is the farm as we are coming back to it.

Baby took off for a trek up a steep hill. We did not follow. We are not young.

The corn has been planted. See the barely visible rows?

Here is a close-up of the corn just popping up.

I made it all the way out and back! And I didn't die or even require mouth to mouth, though Mr Farmer offered several times. It was a perfect walk!

A Cat

This is our male cat. He's sweet and craves petting and scratching and rubbing. Like most males. Do you want to know how we know for sure which cats are male? We listen. They are always, and without exception, the whiny ones. They cry and whine everywhere they go. Like most males.

I looked out the bathroom window and saw him up there on the tomato trellis. The birds like to sit on the arched trellises and he was sitting up there, quietly watching. Until I came along and took pictures. I ratted him out to the birds. The jig was up. He was no longer invisible.

What Do You Use For Shelving?

What do you use for decorative shelving in your home? I have a couple of typical shelves on the walls, but I also make use of all sorts of things. These are a few ideas from my kitchen.

An old cheese grater.

An old cheese box.

An old Folgers coffee can.

Another type of old cheese grater.

And an old wooden box of some sort.

I love looking for unique ideas for shelving. Any little flat space will do.

The Flower Beds

Here are some pretty pictures of the flower beds around the house and yard. Please take special note of my expertise in growing dandelions in the grass. I don't limit their beauty to the yard, though. I also sow them in all my flower beds, driveway, and every crack available everywhere.

The hens are happy with a clean coop. The warmer, drier weather allowed the kids to clean it out and put in fresh hay.
